Inflammatory Eye Diseases

Except for the eye diseases that lead to deterioration of eyesight there are also inflammatory eye diseases that can become a source of many problems as well. To achieve better and faster results in treating inflammation combine treatment, prescribed by your doctor, with herbal medicine.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammatory eye disease, in which the conjunctiva-a delicate membrane that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the exposed surface of the eye-is inflamed. Conjunctivitis is caused by bacteria and viruses. Allergies, chemicals, dust, smoke and everything that causes irritation of conjunctiva can lead to conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis, except for allergic type, is infectious and highly contagious disease. Conjunctivitis usually brings no permanent damage. However, if left untreated, it may lead to more serious eye problems.

Mix together equal parts of cornflower flowers and elder flowers. 3 tsp of the mix steep for 20-30 min in 1 cup of boiling water and filter. Use to wash inflamed eyes.

1-2 tsp of cornflower flowers put in 1 cup of boiling water, steep for 1 hour, filter and use to wash eyes.

Place 3 tsp of eyebright grass in 2 cups of boiling water and boil for 5 min. steep for 15 min and filter. Use to wash affected eye.

2 raw egg whites mix with ½ cup of water, let stand in warm place for 30-40 min. Apply on affected area at night, 15 min before bed.

Place 2-3 tbsp of chamomile flowers and grass in 1 cup of boiling water, steep, covered, for 1 hour and filter.

1tsp of dry celandine put in 1 cup of boiling water, boil at very low heat for5 min and steep for30 min. Filter, add 1 tsp of honey and wash eyes few times a day.

Sty is also an inflammatory eye disease. It is an acute purulent inflammation of the oil-producing glands on the inner or outer surface of the eyelid. If sty occurs too often it may be a sign of a weakened immune system. The herbal treatment of inflammatory eye diseases consists mostly of remedies,used for eye washing and compresses.

Wash both eyes with weak chamomile infusion and use it warm for compresses.

Rub affected eye with peeled clove of garlic for 2-3 days.

4-5 times a day eat few small tansy flowers with some cold water. Repeat every day until complete recovery.

10-15 g of dry calendula flowers put in 1 cup of boiling water, steep for 30-40 min, filter and use to wash eyes.

Crush 1 aloe leaf and steep in 1 cup of cold boiled water for 6-8 hours. Filter and use as compress on affected eyes.

Squeeze out juice from 1 aloe leaf and dilute it with cold boiled water (1:10). Use as compress for eyes. If sty occurs too often take 1 tsp of aloe juice twice a day for 20 days.

Combine 50 g of eyebright grass and 50 g of chamomile flowers. 5 tbsp of the mix put in 1 cup of boiling water and steep for 10 min. Place the mash on clean cloth and use hot as compress.

3 tbsp of plantain grass steep in 1 cup of boiling water and use to wash an eye.

4-5 laurels leaves place in ¼ cup of boiling water steep for 20 min and remove leaves. Drink every day until complete recovery.

Blepharitis is one more type of inflammatory eye diseases. Inflammation occures at the edges of the eyelids. The symptoms include redness and thickening of the edges of eyelids, burning, itching and irritation of eyelids. Scales and crust, as well as shallow ulcers, may appear. The disease often affects the upper and lower eyelids of both eyes and is common, especially in children. The treatment of this particular inflammatory eye disease may take a long time and requires patience.

Boil 1 cut unpeeled onion in 2 cups of water, add small amount of honey and use to wash eyes 4-5 times a day.

2-3 tbsp of chamomile grass and flowers put in 1cup of boiling water, steep, covered well, for 1 hour and filter. Use to wash eyes.

Steep 1-2 tbsp of thyme grass in 1 cup of boiling water. Use for washing.

Steep 1 tbsp of crushed fennel seeds in 1 and a half cup of boiling water. Use for compresses.

15 g of lily of the valley flowers steep in 1 cup of boiling water. Use as compresses.

Combine 2 tsp of crushed plantain seeds with 2 tsp of water. Mix well and add 6 tbsp of boiling water. Shake from time to time till cools down. Filter and use for compresses.

Wash your eyes with diluted ramson juice.

1tsp of bird cherry flowers put in 1 cup of cold boiled water and steep for 8 hours. Wet cotton swabs and place on closed eyes for 20 min.

2 tbsp of dried cornflower flowers put in ½ L of boiling water and boil for 10 min, steep for 30-40 min, filter and use as eyewash.

1 tbsp of celandine place in one and a half cup of boiling water, steep for 30 min, filter and use warm to wash eyes 3-5 times a day.

Combine 1 part of nettle leaves and 3 parts of mountain ash berries. Add 1 tbsp of the mix to 2 cups of boiling water and steep for 2 hours. Strain and drink 1 cup of warm infusion 3-4 times a day with some honey.

Inflammatory eye diseases can be very aggravating. Discomfort they cause can affect our lives in many ways. The sooner the treatment started the better inflammatory eye diseases respond to it.
