Hypertension and Hypotension Herbal Treatment
Hypertension is one of many diseases of cardio-vascular system. This dangerous disease causes more problems than diabetes, arthritis or even cancer. The condition is very common and many people live with it for years without making any attempts to treat it. Such practices increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, which take lives not only elderly but young people as well.
Hypertension is called the “silent killer,” because it often has no obvious symptoms. A person may have high blood pressure for years before noticing any symptoms, which may include headache, fatigue, dizziness, ringing in the ears, thumping in the chest, and frequent nosebleeds. People, susceptible to developing high blood pressure should monitor it regularly. If three separate elevated (above 140/90) readings are obtained, a trip to the doctor is in order. When blood pressure sharply rises above 220-120 and is accompanied by nausea and pain in occipital part of a head the urgent medical attention is needed, as there is a real threat of a stroke.
Fortunately, hypertension responds well to treatment. However, before any medication is prescribed, it is necessary to make some changes in one’s lifestyle. These changes may include weight loss, regular exercise program, good night's rest, fresh air and strict limitation of sodium and table salt intake.
Physical activity and right diet are 2 simplest ways to treat hypertension. Moderate physical activities improve state of health, reduce weight and lower blood pressure, level of sugar and cholesterol in the blood, and increase supply of blood to heart. Exercises should be performed for at least 30-60 min 3-5 times a week. Very effective physical activity is fast walking in woods or park.
Patients with hypertension should closely monitor their diet. High fiber foods, such as beans, oats, cabbage, carrots, apples, prunes, which promote decrease of cholesterol in blood, should be a major part of it. Such simple step as restriction of salt consumption to no more than 5 g a day helps normalize blood pressure in some cases and considerably lower it in others.
Tension and stress, while not directly causing hypertension, do affect the condition. So, persons with hypertension are urged to avoid high-pressure situations and to learn to deal with stress. Self-hypnosis and meditation have proven useful for reducing stress and may help someone with hypertension.
